Bio:
Marty and Shirley are no strangers to the world of photography. Both became interested in it around the age of 15, although they did not yet know each other. They began by taking classes during summer breaks and were mentored by older experienced ones. After they married in 1978, they purchased their first SLR camera, a Canon AE-1, and took it everywhere. Their love for photography was pushed to the side for some time from the birth of their two daughters, Morgan in 1984, and Whitney in 1990. The ease of the compact digital photography era caused them to stray from their SLR roots for awhile, but disappointing results with these during a 2006 trip to Italy moved them look into DSLR cameras.
They both share a passion for people, travel, and the arts which has driven them to delve into the following areas of photography: travel, landscape, macro/flowers, fashion shows, children/family, commercial, engagement/wedding, and event/entertainment.
Their distinct but complementary personalities are a large part of the secret to their success as a photography team. Marty's outgoing and engaging ways allow subjects to relax and feel comfortable in any setting. His extensive knowledge of technical aspects, programming and editing software ensures that the final images are stunning. Shirley's quieter yet perceptive personality allows her to photograph details and perspectives most others might overlook. She has a inherent natural ability to capture compelling images that speak to the soul.
They have already experienced success in local media as well as commercial use. Their images have been used by VitaMN, CityPages, Minnesota Public Television, Ottmar Liebert, Bobby Caldwell, Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant, Specialty Java, Cliche' Boutique, Black Box Ballet, Chanhassen Dance, John Hancock (Minneapolis Agency), and the local branch of the Special Olympics. They are currently under contract with Tiger Oak Publications for local publications such as Edina Magazine and South West Metro Magazine.
They work with professional equipment for both the photographing and the editing. They continually invest in advancing and perfecting their craft. Their love for the industry and the subjects they work with combined with their technical abilities result in stunning images that all are sure to enjoy.
